How to Care for Costume wig

If your synthetic wig or piece is frizzy or dull you can breathe new life into it by using a detangling spray intended for synthetic fiber wigs and hairpieces. Regular detangling spray that you would use on your own hair will not work. Jon Renau and Hairuwear both make some excellent products for this purpose.

Start by combing out your wig or hairpiece with a wide toothed comb to remove all tangles. Spray the detangling spray about 6 to 8 inches from the wig or hairpiece, directly onto the desired area. You may need to repeat this process and use more spray.

While dampened with the detangling spray, comb through the hair gently with your fingers. Do not use a comb or brush on wet wigs or hairpieces as this could stretch or break the fibers.

Once you have combed through your wig or hairpiece thoroughly you can set it on an wire wig stand or wig mate to dry. Once dry style as usual.
